Stressing Chinese culture rooted in Indonesia, the Chinese "Peranakan" Festival provides spark Batam tourism, province of Riau Archipelago from 2 to 4 November 2012 held at the Mall Kepri.
The festival will feature some of the most singular of "Peranakan" culture that preserves the values of ancient Chinese wisdom, which over time merged with unforgettable for themselves some of the traditional arts and culture of Indonesia. Visitors will be pampered with a variety of colors including programs: a fashion show that Peranakan Cheong Sam Batik, Kebaya tops, and many others, the history of Chinese Indonesian exhibition is presented in three languages (Indonesian, Chinese and English) ancient art, and many others.
The event is fully supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, the Arts and Culture Communication Forum Nusantara, and Sam Po Kong Foundation Semarang.
"Peranakan" which literally means mixed ancestry is a term used for the descendants of Chinese immigrants who came to the islands of Indonesia, and from 15th and 16th century. Although the term may be more familiar associated with ethnic Chinese living along the Straits of Malaka (Malaysia, Singapore and the eastern part of Sumatra) also applies to all Chinese descendants around the archipelago to have married the local Indonesians have become an inseparable part of the diversity of traditional cultures in Indonesia.
